You can also hike up, which should take about 45 minutes. From the top, the view is spectacular if the weather is good. I would have liked to see a drinks package for non-alcoholic drinks, so that I could have had a soft drink or juice with lunch and dinner and perhaps between meals for the whole week. On the other hand, because we had an “Arctic Superior” room, we had a tea kettle we could use for between-meal cups of tea.

Parts of it are relatively sheltered from the wind; other parts aren’t. Passengersreceive a card to open the cabin, but it serves also as a payment card anywhereon board, linked to a credit card. That makes it easy – perhaps too easy – tospend extra money beyond the almost-all-inclusive rates for cabin and meals.
Advice for booking a Hurtigruten cruise
Better yet, I felt that the excursions selected for us on each island were engaging, exciting, and active. While there were indeed options for those in the mood for something less physically challenging, I appreciated the opportunity to spend most of my day hiking, paddle boarding, snorkeling, and kayaking. It made me reevaluate my previous notions of cruise ships primarily being vessels for pool time and piña coladas—not that there's anything wrong with that. Hurtigruten has a flexible pricing policy so you can decide how little or how much you want included. This starts with the basic fare which includes all meals with and the cabin category with the cabin number and dining time allocated at check-in. While there is no spa as such, the ship’s wellness center offers a small menu of services, including facials and massages.

I would cross my fingers, hoping to catch sight of a single Galapagos penguin (the only ones found north of the equator), and suddenly find myself bobbing in a Zodiac next to three of them, with another two on a nearby rock. I would fall asleep dreaming of seeing a marine iguana, and the next day be staring at hundreds of them mere feet away on a beach. To often we find articles written that do not represent the true experiences that we would have once on-board. You have made it quite obvious where and what this cruise includes. The prices are dynamic, like airlines use, so it is difficult to quote a price with any accuracy. They also vary per ship, per cabin and per season (It’s more expensive in summer than winter).

On a river cruise, you can discover multiple destinations – and even get to the heart of them with a guided tour, should you wish – in just one trip, all the while returning to the same luxurious stateroom and comfy bed each night. The Danube is a year-round destination with the exception of January and February, when few cruise lines operate here. Summer, when the weather is hottest, is peak season and as a result Europe’s cities are particularly crowded. Because of that, we recommend taking a Danube river cruise in April, May, September and October. Good Housekeeping's seven-night itinerary sails in September, when the weather should still be balmy and dry, but the summer hordes have gone home. The Galapagos Islands is a relatively new destination offering for Hurtigruten Expeditions; the line only started sailing there in January 2022 on its nine-day Eastern Galapagos “In Darwin’s Footsteps” itinerary.

It reminded me that, despite the current complications of planning a trip, the joy we get from travel is always worth the hassle. While the assigned seating was initially awkward (we were later able to sit with new friends during the last two evenings), I always looked forward to what was on each day's menu. Some highlights included excellent ceviche and several Ecuadorian dishes, like the cheesy potato soup locro de papa. For those who wanted to order off-menu, pizza and burgers were also available. My accommodations on the MS Santa Cruz II were excellent. I was booked in a double explorer cabin, which I felt had just enough space for me, but might have been tight if shared with another person and their luggage.

The 90-passenger ship was fully refurbished before the line’s 2022 sailings began. While there were a few younger travelers on board, and a few get-togethers for young explorers, there is not a lot of dedicated family programming. Traveling families should probably save this expedition for when kids are older.

Hurtigruten Expedition Cruises Reviews
Loved it, booking our next trip this weekend.Have also been on the Norweigan Coastal ferry journey, loved that too. Quite different, the ferry purpose comes first but also great excursions and fabulous food, comfortable and clean cabins. We are staying in a disabled room that is right near the outer door to the car deck.
Bright and always bustling, Aune is the main venue serving a buffet breakfast and lunch and à la carte (and occasional buffet) dinner. Favorites here were a musk ox shepherd's pie and a seafood buffet dinner, which included sushi, sashimi, king crab, and Greenland-sourced caviar and shrimp. I liked that buffet dishes were all presented in small sizes so I could graze without worrying about food waste. I stayed in a spacious upper-deck Expedition Suite with a roomy balcony (from where I watched a whale breach below me one evening). My bathroom had a heated floor and the cabin’s mini bar and wine rack were fully stocked with a complimentary first round. All cabins are outside and half have private balconies—aft suites additionally feature private outdoor hot tubs.
They indicated if denied they would reconsider their policy for reimbursement. To all the people who said that’s what’s insurance if for, how many have filed a claim for a cancelled cruise by the company and you were seeking reimbursement for flight connected with that cancelled cruise? Next collected necessary paperwork including cancellation letter from Hurtigruten. FYI the only written communication from the company didn’t specify which cruises were cancelled - the insurance company asked that question.
Every daywe heard announcements on the ship’s loudspeakers in Norwegian, English andGerman. The announcements deal with things like where the next stop is, whatthe town’s population is, and other general facts about the place. Passengersare informed about informational meetings and so on. The announcements are notvery audible in the room; we usually got up and opened the door to hear better. Level 5 has a walkway outside all the way around the ship, though most of the time the wind is pretty strong, so people tend not to stay there long. On Level 7 in the stern (rear) is a large open-air space with lounge chairs.
Next, attempt to obtain confirmation that our specific cruise was cancelled. Expedition days typically consist of two Zodiac excursions in places of astonishing natural beauty. We completed a 12 day Bergen-Kirkenes round trip on Nordkapp at the beginning of May and I loved every minute of it. Like you, my husband chose not to go on any excursions, whilst I only joined the bird watching one – mainly because they were so pricey. I’ve visited gannet colonies and both South Africa and Aotearoa New Zealand, and am in awe of these elegant creatures. After doing the coastal cruise last year of which the onboard experience was second to none, we decided to book the Svalbard Excursion, a cruise / expedition costing £15000.
As I mentioned above, we could walk entirely around the 5th level outside, and go outside at the stern of the ship on the 6th and 7th levels too. The 6th level is where the two hot tubs are (outside), but only on a little piece of deck outside in the stern of the ship. On the 7th level is a larger deck with lounge chairs and a separate smoking section on the starboard (right) side. My onlycriticism has to do with drinks at lunch and dinner. No drinks are included, and even soft drinks like soda are extremely expensive, as they are all overNorway in restaurants.
There was one session that could really be called purely entertainment rather than education, and it happened when we crossed the Arctic Circle. A crew member dressed up in a ridiculous costume to represent the god Njord. After making an over-the-top, overly dramatic (and hilarious) speech from the crew’s deck on level 8 to the crowd of passengers below on level 7, we were informed that we were expected to kneel to Njord and be baptized. Our ship, the MS Nordnorge, is tastefully and sleekly decorated, without any glitz. In the bow (the front) of the boat on level 7 is a panorama lounge with huge windows and comfy chairs to sit and watch the scenery. Other comfy seating and huge windows line one side of level 4.
